Hello everyone and welcome to Hallow!

My name is Marissa, I am a twenty something year old with a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture and Design and diplomas in Social Media Marketing and Digital Marketing.

For as long as I can remember I have always been fascinated with Interior Design. As a child, I could be found playing with my dollhouse – setting up the furniture was my favorite part of course – or stacking Lincoln Logs and Legos to build the perfect structure.

As I got older, I started playing the computer game “The Sims”. The game was focused on creating a family and trying to make them excel in life but I was always more interested in designing the home for said family. I would spend days sitting at the computer building the house from the ground up and making sure all of the furniture was perfectly placed. Once I finished one house I would start another one, instead of actually playing the game.

When I was 13 my parents built me a new bedroom and let me design the entire thing, right down to the paint color. It was the first room I ever designed on my own. One time we had a family friend visiting and she used my room to change her toddler, when she walked out she asked if we hired a decorator to design that room.

I remember that was the first time I ever realized that decorating could be a job.

And I instantly knew it was what I wanted to do.

In my spare time I like to search the sidewalks for free furniture that people have put out to the curb and then “adopt” them (aka bring them to my apartment to refinish them). Through blogs like Hallow and lessons from my dad, I have learned how to do this and now, I want to share my knowledge with all of you!

Refinishing furniture is such a fun and rewarding hobby to have and my hope is that I am able to inspire and teach others to do the same…and in turn, save them money!

My other goal for this blog is to teach readers how to turn their house into their dream home. Over the years, I have noticed that there are a lot of people that hold off on putting time and money into their house because they are waiting for the day they move into their dream home. While that is a great goal to have, it unfortunately doesn’t happen for everyone. By the time most people realize this, they are so discouraged with their current house that they often give up on the possibility of living in their dream home completely.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. I fully believe that any house can be turned into a dream home and through this blog, I want to teach people exactly how they can do that.

I hope you will find value in the words I so carefully write in each blog post and that I can inspire YOU to step out of your comfort zone and take charge to CREATE your dream home.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and learn more about me!
